I honestly don't know why I keep coming back. Maybe it's nostalgia. But I came back this particular instance to look for the video of the kid jumping on the horse in the field. On Youtube it's been flagged for some BS reason. There's nothing inappropriate, except maybe the kid attempting suicide by being an idiot. Strangely, it's perfectly watchable here. But in looking around at my old dusty web page, I got a feeling of "What a loser I must have been!". I noticed my surprisingly poor grammar, and the fact that I talked about nothing. Yeah, I know it was the point, but I should have known that no one gave a crap. I think it did know that, but I don't know, whatever. It's like most people with blogs, thinking people will want to read their opinions. I do read some blogs, but they talk about interesting things. Genuinely interesting things, or if they don't, then they have an interesting perspective on things. I don't have either. Also, now that blogger has a tracker, I know who comes here now. Almost no one. There was 1 view yesterday, but I don't know if that was a person or an internet crawler. So I'm probably typing to no one. But like I said, this is more of a nostalgia post. I think this blog started dying when I ended the weekly video thing. I felt that my music tastes had gotten to extreme and/or underground for most people, and I was tired of hunting down videos. But I didn't have anything to talk about to replace it. Plus it just became a chore to update this place regularly. So I sort of abandoned it. I still want to talk about things, but I think I have a new goal. I'm thinking of maybe starting a blog for serious things. Or at least, opinions that aren't usually about food and TV, and aren't so tongue in cheek. Things with an interesting perspective. One thing I've learned over the years, is that no one cares about what you write on a blog, blogs have been replaced by a few of what I call "super-sites". Things like Youtube, Facebook, and such. So unless you have an interesting thing to say. You'll get nowhere. And even then it will tough. So I guess this is more of a good bye. I think I'll just permanently abandon this place. So for the final time, good bye.

What do people want me to talk about?

So, I'm here, and I'm not going to lie, I had pretty much abandoned this place, largely because I ran out of things to talk about, without breaking my tradition of "nothing serious". I mean, there's only so much food to talk about, and my music tastes have gotten too obscure for most people, so I don't talk about that anymore either. And theres only so much random stuff you could write about before realizing how useless it is, especially since I have no idea if anyone reads this, or will even check back to read this. However, the recent unexpected wave of comments I received have inspired me, so here's the deal; I will keep writing if you give me a topic to talk about. It doesn't really matter what it is. I look forward to hearing some ideas.

B-A-C-K that spells back! (a true rambling)

Yes, I'm back after 4 a month absence. I know it's called Daily Ramblings, but lately things haven't been anywhere near daily. I don't know if anyone still reads this, but if you do happen to be checking up, this time it was not in vain. And I thank you for sticking with this. Anyway, today I'm going to be discussing a subject that many...You know, I don't know what I'm going to talk about...I've bought 16 albums in about a months time, no joke, and a few days ago I got chili up my nose, hmmmm, you know about...you know, it doesn't matter, because in between those 3 periods right there, another month just went by, it's the end of February now, the 23rd, and still I have nothing. More people have been reading this, and I owe it to them to talk about things, meaningful things, but nothing here I've ever talked about is meaningful really. I mean, right now, I'm literally talking about nothing, it's a conversation about nothing. But what could I talk about? Well, Joey thinks my opinion of hot pockets is wrong, and that he won't read things that are too long to him, but if he actually read this, he'd know I was talking about him. Just like I'm going to talk about war. War is a divisive subject, as we all know. But what about war? Who has them? and why? Actually, I'm not going to think that much right now, plus I've always said I wouldn't talk about serious topics on here, so I won't. But I don't want to talk about food again. How about the fact that the sun is shining and it's still cold? What's up with that? The sun is hot, the air is not? Why is this? I'm no meteorologist...oh, wait, I know what's even better, people who drive with their brights on? They are so bright aren't they?...the people that is, their bright, for driving with their brights on. There you are driving down a curvy, deserted road at night, and some idiot comes barreling around with his brights on. I mean, those are blinding, and that's bull, I mean, what if some deer jumped out right in front of you right as that happened? Now you've got deer blood all over your nice car, not to mention what the deer hitting your car did to it. All because someone didn't know what to do. Well, I'm going to wrap this up now, or else some people might not read it.

Bread at school

Yes, I'm back! This blog isn't dead yet, not by a long shot. Tonight I'm going to be ranting on something that really irritates me. The bread at school, in the cafeteria. It's so good! Today I had some garlic toast, and it was positively slammin'. (I wish I could use stronger language to describe it, but the kids, you know.) I mean, the butter and the garlic, freakin sweet! Oh, and the dinner rolls. As if they weren't straight from the wheat fields. What a treat! Those things rule! But those jerks only let me have one! They let you have more entrees if you can pay for it, but not more sides? Why? Wheres the sense in that? If I have the money and you've got the bread, then it's win-win right? See, this is what you get from government bureaucrats, at any level really. Man wants bread, and he can't get more! Whats up with that? You know, since I'm talking about the injustices of the school cafeterias, why don't we talk about the negligence of not having salt and pepper? Back in grade school I'd always wanted salt and pepper, some foods just seem to require it. But they never gave us any! Now I'm in high school, I'm 16, and these people still don't give me any salt or pepper! Do they not trust me with it? If they're so worried about kids unscrewing the tops, then get the kind they have at McDonalds? Those can't be unscrewed. I remember back in grade school taking packets of salt and pepper from fast food places and bringing them to school. I shouldn't have to go out of my way to be provided quality seasoning. Seriously. Whats even worse, I hear they used to have salt and pepper about 3 or 4 years ago. But then they got rid of it! Why? No salt, no pepper, no extra bread! Where's my service? Where's the justice? I'll tell you, in the tasty bread that I'm willing to pay for, that's where! Later.

Microwavable steaks

So who here has ever had a microwavable steak? Show of hands now! Anyone? No, noone? Well consider yourself freakin' lucky, cause there terrible. Look, it's been years since i've had one, but from what I remember, I didn't like it. You know how real steaks are all juicy and tender and taste good? Not these. There's like, no moisture. If I remember right, it tastes kinda chewy and bad. This doesn't just include microwavable steaks that are supposed to be microwaved, but also leftovers. Please, don't microwave it. Well, this was alot shorter than I was expecting, but I guess thats all there is to say about that.

The friend zone

So, I know I haven't written for months, but I'm here and today, I'm gonna be talking about the friend zone...No wait, I mean the ******* friend zone. For those of you who might be unfamiliar with the friend zone, it's this thing women use to exclude you as a potential date, forever. That is such bull, you get to know her too well, she'll just consider you a friend and nothing more. Whats up with that? I cannot tell you how many time girls have given me that line, "Oh, your a great guy, it's just..." It's just what honey?! That you just want to be friends? You gots to be kidding me! Take it from me, the friend zone is one of the worst zones in the world, right behind The Demilitarized Zone. The friend zone is not a friendly zone dang it! I'll probably add to this post later, but bottom line is, the friend zone...uh, what I said, not a good place to be.

Hot Pockets

So once or twice at school they tried to feed us "Pizza pockets" which I think were pizza hot pockets. They suck. It's so fake and plasticy. The cheese is like a mustard! Seriously! This stuff better digest. The disgrace to food and food products caused by these (as Jim Gaffigan calls them) "Dhiarrea pockets" is indeed unbelievable. Mr.Gaffigan was right (although not very funny, as a stand up comedian) when he said the directions should be "Open package, place directly into toilet) and it's true, sometimes you could be burned by this stuff too, because it can cook unevenly. Not to mention the unnessisary crunchiness needed to get to the inner parts. I can totally picture it (Crunch) "Bleh, theres no meat! No Cheese! It's all crunch and no lunch!" (bites more) "Aww, it's barely even warm!" (Bites even more) "Aoowwwwww! Oh crap! It's hot! My tounge!" Bottom line, is that hot pockets are terrible.

The end of the school year

I'm tired of school. You know how the end of the year is supposed to be fun? Well there shoving another big test at us, every one is sick of each other. The tension is in the air. School should be fun. I remember previous years we didnt have some stupid EOC test. It was a fun time of no homework, little classwork and laid back school days. Now we have this. It's sort of ridiculous. This is a bad time to give us a big test.

Desks at school

Whats up with desks at school? The chair and the desk part are all connected. Whats with that? When I want to put my head down by scooting my chair back I can't. Thats stupid. When I'm constrained by a cheap peice of iron or whatever that breaks easy. Wont let a man scoot his chair out. What the heck? It's like, i'm hunched in this little space, it's gonna give me back problems. Okay, maybe i'd get those if I scoot my chair out and hunch over, but it doesn't help probably. One thing that I also don't like, is if theres no tray to put my feet in, or it's too high to put my feet in, that ain't right! Bottom line is, the desks we use suck, they break easy-ish, their too confining, and some of them don't have a tray to put my feet in. But enough of my summarizing, that isn't ranting material. But remember, cheap crappy "desks" that are just plywood attatched to a plastic chair cause bad things to comfort!

Acrassicauda

So i've just found this band from Iraq, these guys have taken 10 years just to put out an EP, they've faced death threats, bombings, and general persecution. They couldn't even wear t shirts of American bands because they might have gotten killed. So I figure that they have alot of passion to play music while facing all that. Therefore they deserve promotion. They rock pretty hard too.

Bad endings that ruin movies

So whats up with bad ending that ruin otherwise good movies? It's like, it's all good, but then it ends and the ending is stupid. Seriously? You know what? I'm not just going to rant on bad movie endings, but movies that start off good and turn bad. An example would be The Knowing with Nicolas Cage, it starts off really good and all like a good thriller, and then halfway through the movie it completely changes the mood into some weird sci-fi stuff. Whats up with that? The ending is stupid too. The kid goes to live with aliens or whatever? What? What is this? You have a perfectly good plot and movie in the first half. Then you have to turn around and start sucking? Why? The writers try to hard or overanylize or whatever and turn good ideas into bad projects. Why couldn't you just stick with the first half? Why'd you have to go all weird on me? Why? Because the writers lack so much confidence in there ability to write good stories that they throw them away for stupid sci fi and plots that make no sense. Or they have a stupid ending that makes you go "What the heck was that?". Like when movies build up and up and you think at the end something big is going to happen and it doesn't, and it's a let down and pretty much ruin the movie. Seriously. Well, I can't think much, so i'm gonna stop. Later

Album Review: Beneath The Remains by Sepultura

So I've had this album for a while, since before Christmas, and this is easily one of my favorite albums now. It's a classic. Now if you have no idea who i'm talking about, Sepultura is a Brazillian band who pretty much sucks now so i've heard. But there earlier stuff, genius, but then they traded it for selling out on the groove metal bandwagon and started sucking. This here, however, is a classic in thrash metal in everyway. Now, this album (and its follow up, Arise which i will also be reviewing) is debated as to wheater it's thrash or death metal. I say thrash metal, the music is definitly thrash metal. The vocals are why it's debated. They aren't the cookie monster vocals most people associate with death metal, nor are they the, well, I'm not sure how to describe it, low to mid ranged scream of early death metal that was used by bands such as Death. No, these are more of a grunt. Although they can get somewhat gutteral at times, such as on parts of "Stronger Than Hate". But I consider this thrash metal. Really agressive thrash metal, but still. Sort of like Slayer, but better. Although it does let up at times more, and this helps it. This stuff sounds genuinely angry and they have a reason to be, living under a dictatorship and all. Unlike say, Rage Aginst The Machine, where they're all from the mean streets of the suburbs. But one thing I want to mention is the drumming, Igor Cavalera, is in my opinion, one of the best drummers out there, he's spot on, interesting, and it all flows really well. He plays at these speeds for like 5 minutes at a time. He's quite good. But anyway, do you want brutality? Melody? Really good solos? Head-bangy rffs? There all here. I'm not going to go on about the songs, but the first 6 songs, and the last one, are great, the 7th I haven't listened too in a long time and the 8th is totally filler, but that doesn't detract from the album at all. How can you not like the lightning fast guitar and the "Who, who who, has won?! Who, who, who, has died?!" chorus in the title track? "Inner self" is the slowest song here, thats not saying much, it's still fast-ish, like a fast mid tempo I suppose, or a slow fast song, but it kicks. You know when you hear that chugging guitar riff, then the drums with these cool sounding drum rolls, and then double bass, that it's going to rock. Then when it speeds up just over halfway through the song, that part makes the song! Seriously, listen to the energy behind it. Speaking of that, the guitar tone on this album is great, it sounds like a real guitar, it's not super detuned, and it's raw and full of energy. Then we have "Stronger Than Hate" it's agressive, and it's got a super chorus with a whole bunch of guest vocalists, like Kelly Shaefer and John Tardy among others. Of course if your the average reader of my blog you probably have no idea who these people are. In fact, I applaud you for reading this far into my rambling reviews of metal albums that the average music fan has never heard of, of course that is if you do read this, seriously, I have no idea why I write these or if anyone reads them. But back to the review, theres a really awesome headbang inducing part at the end of "Stronger than Hate" which is suddenly interrupted by...clean guitar? I'm rocking out like an idiot the first time I heard this and then all of a sudden I get this crap. Whats up with that? Are they going soft? What is this? I'm just kidding, I like it. There's actually clean guitar sprinkled throughout this album. Like in "Mass Hypnosis" where the solo pretty much makes that song. Another thing about this, is that I can't understand half the words being sung. Maybe i'm exagerating a little bit, but it's just that his accent is so thick. It's not his singing or anything like that, it's just his accent is so heavy, it's obvious english isn't his first language. I mean in the chorus of "Mass hypnosis I thought he was singing something in spanish, then I looked up the lyrics and realized he was singing "Hate through the artieries" now it's clear to me but at the time it wasn't. The last real song on here though "Primitive future" is so energetic it isn't even funny. But I also have some bonus tracks that i'm not going to count towards the score because they aren't really part of the album anyway. Only 1 of the 3 bonus tracks is a song. That would be "A Hora e a Vez do Cabelo Nascer" Yeah, really. It's some brazillian hardcore punk song or something they convered, I can't really say much because i've never heard the origional, but on it's own merits, I can say that it's not a bad song. Bottom line is, this album is all I listned too for a while, go out and get it now, get the CD, download it off Itunes (I did), I don't care, just listen to this album. 10 out of 10.

Shoelaces

Whats up with shoelaces? They dont ever stay tied, you can double tie them, triple tie them, quadruple tie them, whatever, and they still managed to come untied. What a hassle, you know what would solve this? Velcro, what ever happened to that? People are like "ha ha you cant tie your shoes!" Uh, no, its because I dont want to tie my shoes! Its a hassle to keep retying them! Seriously. Bottom line is that Shoelaces are impractical.

Metal Mania

So on VH1 they have this show called Metal Mania. It's a show of nothing but two hours of classic 70's, and 80's classic hard rock and heavy metal videos. Sounds like my kind of show right? Wrong. It sucks. I still watch it with Tivo and record it, because they usually have a gem or two in there. But for the most part this show sucks. Why? Because the so called "metal" they play is crap like Poison, Winger, Warrant and other bands that suck. Not only that, they're not metal, not at all. Not only that, they play the same videos over and over it seems. They play way too many Scorpions videos. Seriously, they're fine and all, but you get tired of hearing them when they have 3 freakin videos in like a 40 video block. And there almost always played. I like Judas Priest, but the only videos I've ever seen on there are "Breaking the Law", "You Got Another Thing Comin'" and "Turbo" "Turbo" sucks. Not only that, they need to play more real metal, I want to hear more classic metal bands and maybe a little thrash metal. Seriously. They play Dio, they play Armored Saint, they play Saxon, but they don't play them enough. Meanwhile terrible bands like Poison take up all the space. They play some old Metallica videos from there live performances occasionally, but I've never seen them play the video for "One". The only Megadeth video I've seen is "Symphony of Destruction". I've seen Sepultura's "Territory" and some other song, but seriously, that's from when they became a groove metal band, groove metal is honestly dangerously close to nu-metal. I've only seen Pantera on there twice, and that song both times was "Mouth for War". The last time I saw it, they actually played good songs for a good chunk. They played Anthrax and Metallica, and some others in there, along with that video, but right after that video they played some crappy Biohazard song. There like a suckier Pantera with rapping. I see the video come on, and I'm like "This looks like its gonna rock!" but it doesn't, it sucks. But even videos that are good are fairly rare, they mostly play crap and when they play something decent its the same thing every time, good is even rarer. I don't mind them playing Motley Crue, or even Ratt every once in a while, but they need to stop playing garbage that isn't metal at all. And if there going to play that stuff they should play more Skid Row, because I like Skid Row, and they should play the video for "Slave to the Grind" sometime. Also, for some reason, there weekend shows, seem to be better.

Album review: Endgame by Megadeth

So I've had the new Megadeth album for a while. What do I think of it? I think it's an excellent metal album. Megadeth have most of the time been rivals to Metallica, mostly because Dave Mustaine, the singer and rhythm guitarist, used to play guitar for Metallica, and wrote some songs that are on their earlier albums. But he got fired and started Megadeth to get back at Metallica. He wanted to create a band that would be more successful. He failed in that. However Megadeth have always been better musicians than Metallica, their songs are far more technical. But, while Megadeth may be better musicians, and they are indeed excellent musicians, they were never better songwriters. But that doesn't mean they weren't good. They were, and they definitely are now. Metallica put out Death Magnetic, and somewhat regained there former sound, the one that got them a fan base before they stopped being metal. It is a good album, but the extreme compression makes that album almost unlistnable to me. This album is not just a good album, but a great album, this album destroys Death Magnetic, its so far ahead its not even funny. Not to say Death Magnetic was bad, not at all, I gave it an 8, but Endgame just blows it out of the water. For starters, the production on this album is really good, its not over compressed, it sounds great. The modern production just makes the songs even better. Also, the musicianship is phenomenal. The drumming is fantastic, the guitars are tight and focused, the soloing is insane, they have dueling solos all over the place and its great. The songs themselves are excellent, all of them, but the standout ones especially. The songs just lock into the rhythm and drive forward with a fury. "1,320'" is a song that just locks into a groove and drives forward, as I said earlier, with a fury. "Dialectic Chaos" is a great instrumental. But I'm not going to describe the songs in detail, although "44 Minutes" kind of has stupid lyrics. It's almost like reading a report, seriously. But it's a good song, even if the lyrics are kinda stupid. Bottom line is that this is an excellent metal album, its miles ahead of Death Magnetic. Some songs are excellent, some good, but none are bad, or even "ok"; I like all of them. Even though I'm giving this a 9 out of 10, its tons better than Death Magnetic. 9 out of 10

When did you decide to create Daily Ramblings?

Well, I've always had alot to say about everything, I figured why not share it with the world?

Do you have plans for expanding?

Well I had intended to give Daily Ramblings a proper website that shows up on Google and doesn't have the whole .blogspot thing, but that didn't happen, I might in the future, but moving this would be some work I think.

So do you have any plans for future rants?

Of course, I always have some in my head, I'm thinking of having you write about bottled water.

Why is that?

Well there stupid! Why should you pay dollars for a few ounces of water when you can get the same water for cents!?

I totally agree boss.

Yeah, and it's not like it's cleaner or anything, you know what? I think bottled water is a conspiracy by the aqua industrial complex.

Album review: Black Gives Way To Blue by Alice in Chains

(I know this is a very long review, mostly because I want to describe each song and how it sounds. So please bear with me.)

So yesterday I picked up this album at Best Buy on the day of release, it wasn't even on the shelves yet when I got it, it was still on the carts. But anyway, this is AiC's first album in 14 years, and there first album without Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose in 2002.
I must say, his replacement, William Duvall, does a pretty good job of singing, he doesn't sound like Layne Staley but he doesn't sound out of place at all. The only problem is that he doesn't get enough upfront singing time, in there old material Layne Staley was clearly the undisputed lead singer, although much of there sound relied on vocal harmonies with guitarist Jerry Cantrell, he was always upfront and Cantrell was in the background more so. Now it's the opposite, while William Duvall actually manages to harmonize well, he doesn't sing upfront much, except on 1 song.
It actually seems that they've traded some harmonizing for switching singing lines, which is kinda cool I suppose. But anyway, this album is definitely Alice in Chains, although they aren't trying to rehash past material, it starts out with "All Secrets Known", its, I'm not sure how to really describe it, airy? AiC records, there 3 previous (they've been around since like 1987 and have only released 4 albums including this one and 2 EP's, although one of them is long enough to be considered a short album, its got 7 songs, it's like half an hour.) albums have always started off with a heavy, rocking song that kicked the crap out of you. This one doesn't, but it's a good song. One thing that stands out is the lyrics are about a new beginning and healing and such, which seems appropriate. The next song is the radio single "Check my Brain", its easy to see why it was on the radio, its melodic, it's a rocking, non-acoustic song and its kinda catchy. Some people whine about how it talks about California, and it is a little cliche, but its about Jerry Cantrell moving to L.A, so it makes sense, seriously. Although I will say that the music video for this song sucks. Its one of the cheapest things I have ever seen. I think they blew there whole budget and we got that cheap piece of crap for a video. It shows the band playing the song and all, which is good, it's what a music video should be, but it looks like it was made with windows movie maker and some stock stuff, I'm not kidding, for example, when they sing "So I found myself in the sun...", guess what they do, they put a picture of the sun in the background! That's real creative. Not. Cheap indeed. But it is a good song. "Last Of My Kind" is the one song where Duvall sings upfront for pretty much the whole song, and he sings great, I don't know why he doesn't sing upfront more often. This is one of the standout songs on this album I feel, it's also one of the heaviest, along with "A Looking in View". But this is the only song we get to hear him upfront. The next song "Your Decision" is an acoustic song. A really good one in fact. I think this is one of the best songs on the album. Then there's "A looking in View", This song is really good, though it has a small flaw in that it drags too long. It's over 7 minutes long. it's also pretty heavy, in the intro theres a little bit of, actually like a split second of double bass, which is unusual for an Alice in Chains song. and then it rips into this riff, it rocks, then the verse with the "Hear footsteps creak the floor..." part with all the harmonies, then it launches right back into that riff, then the verse picks up again with the harmonies, then that riff again, and William Duvall goes "Lay! Down!..." in the chorus. Brilliant, it kicks hiney as the kids say now. Then they have some of that line trading thing with the vocals, where one sings one line and another sings the next, that's cool. And it's got that hook-y "A looking in view too long on the outside..." post chorus thing too, and it's also repeated alot at the end. Great song. "When The Sun Rose Again" is another acoustic song, its cool, it seems to be speaking about how they are back with the "It seems you prophesied all of this would end, where you burned away when the sun rose again?" I think that might be a reference to there sun logo. And then, there's "Acid Bubble", what a song, i think it's the best song on here, it's brilliant. It took a bit to grow on me, but when you really listen to it, you realize the small things that make this song so great. it's slow, it's sludgy, it starts with this riff that just towers over you, its got these slow, harmonized verses, then they've got that line trading again, with Cantrell singing "and I always payed attention to all the lines you crossed" and then Duvall sings "Forgive this imperfection, it shows and know..." part, that's freakin cool, then they go into the chorus with all the harmonies, and then when Duvall sings "Alone inside your mind" the way it rings out, that's cool, and it has a vaguely Layne Staley quality to it,and he doesn't even sound like him at all. All the little things, and then I love that riff that they play in the middle of the song, during the "Intent obsolescence! Built into the system!" part, it's all like duh-duh-duh duh duh duh- duh duh duh duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh, of course you can't really get it from my typing, but its so cool. That song is 6 minutes and 54 seconds of brilliance. "Lesson Learned" is one of those rocking songs, its fairly fast, its short, it's catchy, and its a definite candidate for a single. It's a good song. "Take her out" sounds like something from Jerry Cantrells solo career, but it's a really good song, I've seen some people say this is a weaker song or that it should have been a B-side for a single. I disagree, this is a good song, it's got that sludgy guitar that chugs along at a nice pace and fits well with the vocal melodies, and the chorus is kind of catchy, this is also a song I think could be a single. But its a good song. In fact, I'd say there are no bad songs on this album. But bottom line is this is a good song. "Private Hell" definitely has that "down in a hole" vibe, it's not quite as good though, it doesn't have the same high "Down in a Hole" did. I mean this song has that, but it's not nearly as good as "Down in a Hole". This song does have those "Uh huh, uh huh" responses though. It's not a bad song by any means though. Finally, the album closer, and title track "Black gives Way to Blue", is easily the best ballad they ever did. Ever. In fact, Elton John plays piano on this song, which makes it even better. The only problem with this song is that it's too short, although that's not really a problem. It's a beautiful song really. And I like that they take a stab at all those rip off bands with the "Imitations are pale" line. Great song, perfect closer.
This album does not tarnish Alice in Chains in any way, in fact, it's a great album that in my opinion has no bad songs. It's merely a new chapter in their history. It took some time for this album to grow on me though, I seriously considered giving this album a 7 at first, but I figured 8, but now, I think that this album is deserving of a 10, it's that good. Go out and buy this album now, seriously. 10 out of 10.

So heres an idea for a rant i've had for a long time, so whats the point of using calculators in school? In 4th grade when we were learning division and such we weren't allowed to use them, but now we're allowed to use them for almost everything, its stupid. When all the computers fail, how will stores calculate prices? They probably can't write it out because they probably don't know how too. It's stupid, or rather its making us stupid. They let us use calculators for stuff we could do in our head probably if we thought about it or wrote it out. Its ridiculous.

Today at School

School today was easily the saddest school day ever. I heard the teacher in woodshop made an emotional speech that almost brought the whole class to tears. I myself feel bad I didn't wear orange, I dont have anything orange, that I didnt know Colton better, and I feel bad for eceryone else espeshally Katie and Nick and such. I think i'm still fully processing this though. I mean, 14 year olds aren't supposed to just die. You go through school seeing the same few hundred kids through out the years grow up and graduate, from beginning to end, now that isn't going to happen. I mean, kids move sometimes, but it's just not the same. There was a general feling of sadness through out school today, in math class a few kids cried, it felt really weird just having an empty desk there, you know? I feel sad, although some people are absolutly torn. This is truely a sad day.

So Colton died in a 4 wheeler accident yesterday. Really this is terrible. He was 14. I still can't really believe this happened. School will be interesting tomorrow. But really this is tragic, I didn't know him very well, but it was the night of the homecoming dance and he was taking this girl (I'm not going to mention her name because its irrelevant). Put yourself in her shoes, it's your first high school dance, and then the person u were taking dies on the day of the dance. It's sad really. This was completely unexpected. Really this is probably one of those moments that's burned into your mind, like JFK or 9/11, but on a smaller scale. Its one thing to hear about people dying on the news, but when it happens to someone you know it's completely different. This is truly a tragedy.

Album review - Inhaler by Tad

Tad was a grunge band from Seattle formed in 1988, despite the fact they were one of the first bands to sign to Sub Pop, they were the last notable local band to get a major label signing. They never became famous. After this album, their major label debut, they were dropped due to a controversial promo poster. After 1 more album that received negative reviews, they broke up in 1998 after several years of not being signed to a label. This album however, is apparently their best. It's also one of the heaviest grunge albums ever made. To me, this album almost defines grunge. Regardless of the hype surrounding the term, this album is grunge. It's heavy, distorted, it's got that dirty guitar sound to it. I also like the drumming, they seem to have a good drummer, he uses double bass occasionally too. Tad Doyle isn't really a good singer objectively, but he works well here. I think he also plays guitar. The album opens with "Grease Box", possibly the best song on the album, and in fact, one of my favorite songs. It opens with a great bass line that grooves. In fact, one time a few months ago it started playing in my head and I had no idea where it came from. But I was sure I'd heard it somewhere, then I found it when I remembered this song. But it starts with that bass line, and then the distorted, dirty, "grungy" guitar kicks in playing the same thing. It's great really. In the verse that guitars playing in the right speaker, then in the middle the other one kicks in the other speaker and I don't really know how to describe it but it rocks. I also like the "and you don't have to stand..." part in the chorus. And the solo is awesome, I mean, maybe its not like a thrash metal solo or something, but it sounds cool to me. The next song "Throat Locust" rocks and rolls. It starts and just assaults you with that riff, it's just a power chord or something but it kicks the crap out of anything Nickelback could ever dream of with a power chord. And then the chorus with its "It wont mean a thing..." is cool, and they have the lead guitar or whatever tremoloing over the power chord or whatever, its so simple but it's cool, I'm not a musician, so it can be hard for me to describe what I hear, but nonetheless, I try. Leafy Incline starts out downbeat, with it's downbeat verses until the loud chorus, with its sorta catchy "I'm not alone" part. It's a good song. "Luminol" has a bunch of bass drum that has a cool rhythm and sort of drives the song. Until the middle when it gets soft with the acoustic guitar for a bit, except the electric guitars chaotically chiming in, then it goes back to the cool drumming. Then it gets even softer with a piano and acoustic guitar. That's cool. Then it goes back to electric and starts the end part of the song. But I'm not going to go into detail about each song. "Ulcer" is alright but, it doesn't really impress me much. It doesn't seem to stand out alot. "Lycanthrope" pretty much sucks. I don't like it. "Just bought the Farm" is an ok song. Not really bad, not really good. "Rotor" is really heavy. It opens with this bass line, then the guitar comes in for one moment, then it goes back to just bass. It's so simple but I think its cool. It's got a cool riff too, its heavy and grooves. And I just like the way Tad Doyle Belts out the chorus. "Paregoric" is, along with "Grease Box" one of the best songs on here. Its got a great crescendo riff that gets stuck in your head too, the riff is really cool sounding. Plus it's got that "Too late!" band chant too. "Pansy" has a really sludgy riff. The closer song "Gouge" is a ballad, with acoustic guitars mixed with electric, and is the most melodic song on here. It ends with a whole bunch of feedback noises. It's a good song. All in all, this is a really good heavy metal/grunge album. An album that rocks and rolls, This is exactly what it sounds like, really heavy grunge. 8 out of 10

So since it's really difficult to get good songs now, I've decided to put the weekly Song and Video feature on permenant hiatus, i'm essentially doing away with it. It may occassionally make a return if I find some interesting things, but as a weekly feature it is essentially no more. I've decided to get back to doing more rants. I'm also thinking of getting Google adsense, I know ads on the side aren't nessisarily good, but the more you click on them, the more money I get, which means more money to buy albums, and more content. But anyways, song and video of the week is now on permentant hiatis.

Nintendo

I'm not a fan of Nintendo. In fact, I think their outdated. Let me explain, yes they are responsible for some of the greatest classics in video gaming. But they are now a mere shell of themselves. One thing I don't like about Nintendo is the outdated technology they use now. It's been this way for years. It all started with the Nintendo 64, the rise of The Playstation as a serious competator (I still have mine). They used CDs, while The Nintendo 64 still used outdated old fashioned cartriges still. Although they did have the game Goldeneye. I will give them that. But the Nintendo 64 was outdated already because of that. Then we get the Gamecube, it used really small disks for some reason. It wasnt that good. The PS2 and X-box were ahead technologically still. And now we get to the current generation of consules. The Wii. The Wii is outdated, its just a gamecube with a controller shaped like a remote that you flick to give the illusion of movement. It's quite hyped. Revolutionary my foot. I read in an article Wiis only cost 99 dollars to make but that you buy it for like $250. Meanwhile, Microsoft sells their X-box 360 below what its worth to make you buy it. Not to mention, the only reason Nintendo is still relevent is because now they tap into the market of "casual gamers". In other words, people mostly over the age of 30 something, or people who do not really play video games. Regardless of who exactly, these people represent the effects of the hype bubble. It's when something becomes very popular in the mainstream it attracts a fanbase of mostly hanger-oners who will drop it and move on to the next big thing. Pop music is solely based on this. Which is why songs have such a short shelf life. Not to mention, Nintendo has milked Mario and other such characters for the past 20 or so years at least, how bout some new characters? X-box has Master Chief from the Halo games. How about some new characters???? Without it's massive hype machine, Nintendo would be far less influentual in todays video game market.

So I looked at my calender and it turns out I forgot about my weekly video posting, and I figure I'd do this weeks videos early too, so I'll post 3 videos.

Here's the latest single from Alice in Chains, it's a great song, despite alot of my fears, this new singer (William Duvall) works. I really can't wait for this new album, it sounds like it's going to be great, I think it comes out on September 29, and once it does, when I get my hands on it, I will review it, the only problem I hear is that Jerry Cantrell is mixed too loud, I want to hear this new singer more upfront. I'm sure I will when I hear an accoustic song. And I know that the thing says "A Looking In View", but that doesn't really matter, its about the song, and this has good quality, the music video isnt out yet, but it will be, and I might replace this with that in the future. But enough of my commentary.

I feel that, since I have a 2 songs with their new singer here, and the only video I have of their old one is a unplugged performance somewhere on this site, and a Pink Floyd cover song side project done in 1999, at a point where drugs had destroyed any power he had in his voice, and had caused him to start losing teeth, that actually was the last recording he ever made, I should put a studio version of a really good song on here. It has a music video, but I dont like it, and I don't like the live versions I've seen either, it doesnt capture this song fully I feel. So I found a video with just the lyrics, and thats all you need, this is a good song. In fact, it was in the new Terminator movie, at least that what I've heard.

System of a Down is one of the few modern bands I like, these guys are one of the best bands out there, in my opinion. Serj Tanikan can change his vocals on a dime, their funny too. I wanted a ballad like hypnotize on here, but its embedding disabled, but this song is funny, at first it sounds like its about pizza but it's actually about advertising, i think its a good song anyway.

Food Labels

Whats up with food labels? I go to the store and I see something that says "98% fat free". That language is misleading, what it really means is 2% fat. If something said 50% fat free, its still 50% fat. Its wording designed to hide that it is still somewhat unhealthy. Although I admit it is a good idea, I wouldnt have realized it unless I thought about it. Clearly this is a tactic to make food sound healthier.

I can't stand trendy or weird names. It's so stupid, why can't you just name your child right? Celebrities seem to be in a contest to find the weirdest name. Whats that about??? But what I can't stand even more, are names intentionally spelled wrong. That's bull. It's not funny or cute, it makes you look like an idiot who can't spell right. Thanks to all the trend following, tabloid reading moms who want to be "different" we have this. You know, that actually seems like an oxymoron, they contradict each other, how can one be trend following, and want to be different? Exactly. Everyone wants to be different, so to try to be different than everyone else, you do what everyone else is doing to get away from being the same. It's like things that started out different, everyone catches on too, and they all start doing it. In this case, everyone was already doing it before you got the chance to spell your kids name in an idiotic way. Seriously check out some of this I found on a website (it says "Creative baby name spellings, creative? How about stupid?), Abigail can be spelled Abbigail, Abagale, or Abigael. Caleb can be spelled Kaleb, Cayleb, or Caeleb. Zachary can be spelled Zakary, Zakkary, or Zacharie. Michelle could be spelled Mashell, M'shell. Jennifer could be spelled Jennyfer, Jennipher, or Jennafer. Are you kidding me?? What intelligent person would buy this nonsense? How would you like your kid spending their entire lives, telling people how to spell their name??? Seriously. Name your kid right, don't spell like a 7 year old. Another thing I don't like, is when parents give their kids ethnic names, even though their heritage is not at all what they named their kid. For example, giving your kid a Russian sounding name, when you're not even Slavic. Whats up with that?? That's another thing I don't get. And why are there names only old people seem to have? Like Agnes or Merle. Why do we never see those names anymore? Why can't parents just name their kids after Saints or people of the Old Testament, like David or Adam like normal people? That's what most people do, why can't you do that? Bottom line, at least for their sake, and the sake of sounding educated, name your kid a normal name.

So I'm backed up by 3 weeks, another 6 video post. it's getting increasingly hard for me to find music on Youtube that meets all my requirements. Some of it has embedding disabled and I can't use it. Sometimes almost enite artists are off limits to me because their record label (like SonyBMG) has all their videos embedding disabled. Not only that but I try to keep this site family friendly and I do go to great lengths to assure that. I personally watch all of the videos I post. This rules out some live performances, like for example, alot of Metallica performances, seemingly most from the early 90s. Because for some reason James Hetfield felt he had to use the F word for no particular reason. I also go to lengths to assure quality. I try to ensure you see high quality performances, which I usually describe, music videos and songs too. Nontheless, I am finding Youtube songs increasingly hard. I do not plan on discontinuing this weekly feature. So I guess I'm going to have to start looking at some other sites, and start searching for songs earlier.

I have the Among The Living Album, I didn't like it much when I first got it, although I've been listning to it lately and now I realize it's pretty good, heres one of the songs on there I've always liked, in fact, it was one of the songs I bought the album for in the first place.

Album Review: Weapons of Our Warfare by Deliverance

(11/2/09 edit: What was I thinking? A 10? This album is really good, but a 10? This is too melodic to really kick my ***. Besides, his voice fits better with there more progressive metal stuff, like on Stay of Excecution (and he sounds almost exactly like the guy from Queensrÿche not Ronnie James Dio.) Now that is a good song. The chugging riff with a rhythm that charges forward. That is what I like in metal. My new rating is 8 out of 10)

(A few minutes later: I'm back after a few minutes, what am I talking about? Of course it sounds great, but prehaps I just dont like the operatic singing. Whatever the case, I overrated this album, its still really good, but not a 10.)

(1/12/10 edit: No! What was I thinking? It's not a bad album at all, its pretty good, there later stuff sucks I hear, although I do like the song "Stay of Execution", my final rating of 8 out of 10 still stands, but this is still a good metal album, of course it's heavy at times.)

So soon after I posted that video, and impressed by some stuff I heard on Rhapsody, I downloaded the album off I-tunes. My conclusion. This album rules. With a capital R. To start off, the production on this album is great. The musicianship is on par with early Metallica and Megadeth. And almost all of it is sutible for headbanging, or "Brain Breaking" as Leah calls it. This means alot coming from a Christian band. Where alot seem to stay in amaturism, I think because they have a guaranteed fan base, not these guys, these guys are up there, they seem serious about musicianship. Not to mention, even though it's a Christian band, you won't find any preaching or bible stories or anything (except maybe "23" which is about psalm 23, but Megadeth did the same thing) it's all spiritual warfare and such. Some songs that stand out to me, are "This Present Darkness" which is a fast shredder and reminds me of Metallica's "Battery" (but doesn't rip it off at all.) The title track, "Weapons of Our Warfare" which you can watch below, (and which Lars Ulrich called one of his top 10 favorite videos)."Solitude, which is one of the more melodic songs and is one of the best songs on the album. "Flesh and Blood" which at 7:21, is the longest song on here and rules. "Greetings of Death" which has a cool doodly hammer riff. After listning to it a couple times, I noticed the similarities to Metallica's "The End of The Line". But they didn't rip it off since this came out 18 years before Death Magnetic. But there really are no bad songs on this album, all of them are good in fact. (Except "Bought for Blood" objectivly speaking I suppose it's not a terrible song, but I don't like it.) On a side note, the singer doesn't really have alot of growl to his singing, he sings agressivly, and has a good range, well, actually thats a good thing he isn't trying to rip off James Hetfield, but he sounds fine, he doesnt sound like Joey Belladonna, he has more of a Ronnie James Dio quality to his voice. (Now that I listen to this more, he kinda sounds like Dave Mustaine in his higher ranges, but with out the grumbling and mumbling.) So it's still metal. Bottom Line: really well played speed metal, go out and buy this album now. 10 out 10

So I'm at school right now in the math room on a computer, we just got out of the talent show. What did I think of it?? I think it was worse than last years. Almost all of the entries were girls who think they could sing. Now some did pretty good, one espeshally, but most of them were not of much quality, even worse, about half were a-cappelas, ugh, thanks alot American Idol. On the bright side, there was one juggling act, Devin did this really cool thing where he made the balls look like they were floating, that was cool. Giana played the violin, i didn't really understand it, she says it was something called "rockin' strings" or something. One other girl played violin and did good. The first act was a kid playing the "Star Spangled Banner" with a guitar, and there was one kid who played guitar and did good. Later the teachers did stuff, some of them tried to rap and was dressed up like steryotypical rappers, that was hilarious. The last thing was a bunch of teachers singing a song, which really didn't seem to be much but a time waster considering it was kinda loud, and the microphone got screwed up (I remember). But the best act of the day was this skateboarding dog. Now that was cool. All in all, it was pretty lousy considering almost everything was a girl thinking they could sing. Let the word go out, UMS has very little talent!

This is just sad, Creed is getting back together after breaking up in 2003, this is wonderful news, more terrible music to clog the radio. I can't beleive this, all they do is make background noise by playing 3 chords sluggishly over and over, with an Eddie Vedder impersonator singing, and a bad drummer. Why can't people make good music these days? Seriously, I mean can't they make something thats interesting? How long will this generic radio filler era last? It's been at least 12 years. This is bull. Seriously, I can not wait for the garbage to be released.

So, I think I've finally solved alot of problems, one is being able to watch music videos at school, another is Youtube not allowing me to embed anything. I've found the answer. Yahoo Video. Which I hope will be my new source of music videos, and it allows me to replace some that have been pulled off Youtube for one reason or another. (Ok, Yahoo music didnt work, so heres another source.)

Heres a really good song. it sounds like AC/DC but it's even better if that we're possible. The singer sounds like both singers from AC/DC combined. They do things AC/DC would never do, like the part near the end. And, scince their a metal band, their heavier. It really sounds like AC/DC with a more early 80s sound really. but this is a really good song.

The Swine Flu

Whats is up with this swine flu? Its front page, first topic covered story in every news media outlet. The amount of hype surrounding this practically non-existant disease is ridiculous. 19,000 people a year die from the regular flu every year, and now, because we have 1 or two cases of this "swine flu" which from what i hear isn't even as bad as the regular flu, we've got a panic, over nothing!! This is bull. We shouldn't be panicking because theres a case in china and maybe Mexico, ok so what? Some people in Mexico died from it? Mexicans die all the time. You can die from drinking the water there. Comon. The local news has a "hot line", Oprah (who shouldn't even be on TV) did a whole spot about this. Its insane and ridiculous. Theres a few cases and its called a "pandemic". Yeah, a few isolated cases and we have a worldwide "pandemic". Unbelievable. What about the normal flu? It sweeps across quickly, there are many, many more people that get that than this "swine flu" which has nothing to do with pigs at all. Yet Egypt killed all theirs. 19,000 people a year die from the regular flu. And here we are panicking over an almost non-existent disease that that is hyped up so bad it isn't even funny. Its ridiculous.

I know I haven't done anything in a while, so I'll just toss out some filler. Whats up with grocery stores? Lets examine the various annoyances everyday people like you face. Number 1 is the parking lot. When theres a place to park your car, some idiot left their shopping cart there. You move over an aisle, another idiot left their shopping cart in the middle of the aisle. After about half an hour of driving around, you finally make it inside. Your shopping cart has a wobbly wheel. When you finally get you foods you go to check out, but do you use the self check out lane where theres a million people who spend 5 or so minutes at it just because its new-ish? Or do you go with the check out person, of course not, no one does that when they don't have too. You just wasted 15 minutes. And to top it off, another idiot dings your car backing out. You've now just wasted about an hour of life on annoyances, all to get some junk food that will eventually kill you. Congratulations.

Nickelodeon is terrible now. After the 90s it was all over, all the good shows were cancelled and replaced by mindless stuff meant to appeal to 8 year olds. I don't buy the argument that I'm biased towards the shows I grew up watching. This new stuff really is terrible. There used to be shows such Kenan & Kel, Doug, The Rugrats, Rockos Modern Life, All That (before they replaced the cast with pre-teens), Hey Arnold, and Ren and Stimpy. All classics in every way. Now, we have stuff like The Naked Brothers Band, iCarley, Avatar:The Last Airbender, and the Abomination known as All Grown Up! That was supposed to be a 1 time special. Not a whole series, now the Rugrats is ruined even more! Speaking of The Rugrats, they stopped being good when the Rugrats movie came around, think about it, all the previous episodes were about their imagination. Now their actually lost in the woods. Isn't that kind of dark considering it's the Rugrats, and they added a new character. Bad move. Then they had another movie and another new character! Then it was dead as a creative show. Anyway, the new stuff is terrible. They had a very brief comeback, with Invader Zim, which is a very good show, but apparently the bizarre humor went over most kids heads and they cancelled it, terrible, I liked that show, with its freaky drawing style and just plain weirdness. Probably one of the weirdest shows ever created. Now it's gone and we have nothing. I watched this channel slowly turn to garbage. Eventually I became fed up and discovered King of The Hill, the best cartoon ever made, when I was flipping channels one day. Nickelodeon is nothing now, they sold out to Disney-esque attitudes. Now they are losing to Disney. Truly sad. Later.

Professional critics are for the most part, idiots who have no idea what their talking about. Take for instance, All Music Guide. And then take something which I've spoken of frequently before, say St.Anger. What a terrible album by a formerly great band (well, I guess not formally since the new album is actually good). AMG gave this 3 stars, which is the equivallent to a 6! Thats a hesitant thumbs up, that ridiculous. If you love low-tuned guitars, a drum with a terrible snare sound, a non-existant bass, no solos, and terrible compositions where the guitar is just an extention of the awful drums, this is it. I like the stuff Metallica did in the 80s, I have the first 5 albums (plus Death Magnetic) I don't have Load, Reload, and definatly not St.Anger. This is clearly nott the band that made Master of Puppets. But AMG doesnt think so, no, AMG does its typical idiocy. AMG uses alot of descriptions and nonsense to try to sound like they know what their talking about. So many descriptions. Useless. The fact they thought this was a decent album shows their idiocy in itself. To compare, listen Master of Puppets first, than listen to St.Anger. Compare the two songs, and I think you'll come to the same conclusion I did. But it's not just AMG, its the Rolling Stone. An organization run by very biased people who refuse to give anything not from their day (probably the 60s or 70s) a fair chance. It's not just music either, movie critics have no idea what ther talking about either. National Security, a hilarious movie i love, got a bad score. How can you not laugh at this scene? Movie citics don't know what good movies are. Professional critics don't know what their talking about. What the problem is?

TV today is terrible. I love King of The Hill and The Simpson's (before it started sucking)but TV now is terrible, The Simpsons sold out and started imitating Family Guy, which in itself is a blatant knock off of The Simpsons, just much stupider, and King of The Hill is just plain not funny any more. Although the last episode was really funny, its not the same, seasons 1-3 were the best. Other TV isn't much better either. The history channel is obsessed with Hitler now, and all things World War II or the occult or supernatural or whatever. And the Discovery Channel is full of ice road truckers and cop shows. theirs more history on the military channel than on the history channel. I Still have Psych, which i feel is a show that is funny and is still good and shows no signs of slowing down. 24 is still good, despite the fact that its kinda out there and season 6 was all over the place, season 5 was really good. Oh, theirs also UFC. But other than that TV terrible as old shows die and new ones to replace it are sub par. For instance, they just canceled King of the Hill, which is going to be replaced by The Cleveland Show, a Family Guy spin off. I can't believe their cancelling King of The hill for that. TV is terrible.

Behind the Music...that Sucks: Death Metal

It all started long ago in a year known as 1983, a young 15 year old Bryan Warner, later known better as Marilyn Manson, found that normal metal didn't bother people over 30 anymore. So he decided to make it even louder. But first he needed a band. "It was real easy" Warner later recalled, "all I did was find some outcast middle schoolers, pay for 1 lesson, and that was all I did, it was so easy." All he needed was a vocalist. They soon found one: Cookie Monster. "As soon as I saw that audition tape I knew right away he was perfect." We here at Behind the Music that sucks have managed to find this audition tape, which you can view here: produced by Chad Portwine.

And so, the band Death, was born. Bryan Warner was the main songwriter. "We figured, why not make the most violent lyrics possible? And while we're at it, why not throw in the F-word every 2 or so lines?" Their material was so obscure that no copies can be found today. Nonetheless, they developed a small cult following among disaffected freaks and angry teenagers everywhere. But trouble soon brewed. The rest of The Jim Henson project known as Sesame street were getting disillusioned that Cookie Monster was spending more and more time with his side project, Death. Also, the band soon faced a lawsuit from another band, Death. They happened to spring up around the same time. Unfortunately, Death lost the lawsuit to Death. But, the band was highly influential, Cookie Monster started a style of singing that is still imitated today, and surprisingly, it doesn't require gargling razor blades. His experiences in the band, and being the main songwriter, helped turn Marilyn Manson into the freak he is today, and as for the other 2 guys with no musical talent, no one ever heard of them again. Nonetheless, they opened the door to future bands that no one has ever heard of. Although, we at Behind The Music That Sucks, got a chance to interview Chris Barnes, formerly of Cannibal Corpse. My words are in bold while his is in tiny little stick letters of death.

Mike Bauer of The Washington-Missourian

You might have read about Mike Bauer, he's a highschooler who writes for the Washington-Missourian in the "My MO" section. But here's the problem. He writes about the same stuff I do. Except he does it badly. I don't know him and I'm not a regular reader, but what is this? He makes me and people like me look bad quite frankly. My posts have 10 times the quality his columns ever had. Now if he reads this, I'd be delighted to have him as a co-author. But nonetheless, let me run down the substandardness of his disorganized non-sense. This guy always switches topics within a few sentences. In his January 16 column discussing the economy he switches from Governor Rod Blagojevich in one sentence commenting on his haircut in one sentence (really, it was one sentence), to a Chevrolet ad he saw next to a test he was taking, going on to gas prices, then in advising people to save money in tough times (He's what? 2 years older than me? I bet he knows all about tough times), he goes on about drive thrus and not buying a soda there then back to gas prices, then talking about how using your cell phone at school to check the time can somehow effect the electric bill at your house and telling you to get a watch, not an expensive watch, mind you, "just one that lets you know what time it is." I guess he's never heard of a clock. Then he moves on to how, when you go to a Cardinals game, you should check the outside vendors for food, instead of buying it inside because its cheaper. This is in one column about the economy. What is this nonsense? People read stuff like this to get away from their problems. This guy is always changing the topic. Why?? Stay on topic, seriously. Maybe we just have different styles, wait a minute, no we don't. In writing quality opinion pieces, there is only one way. THE RIGHT WAY! This guy is all over the place. With things that no one cares about. At least I take time to think of interesting topics. Not something you hear everyday. He says he writes about sports, pop culture and stuff that annoys him. But he's writing about the economy. That has nothing to do with any of that. The economy isn't a sport, a pop culture phenomenon, or annoying, its troublesome, but not annoying. He should be writing about pens at the post office and NASCAR, but at the same time he shouldn't because those are mine. (Well, to be fair, the NASCAR one isn't entirely my idea, 62365 thought of it first, but i took it an made it made it my own, so to speak. And JamesNintendoNerd got the pens at the post office, but I expanded if i recall, besides, everyone looks up to him *Nostalgia critic*cough*Irate Gamer* but I made them mine to an extent.) This guy needs to organize his thoughts. Alot of the time, he barely writes 2 sentences about a topic. Now, I've had 2 occasions where that happened but at least I padded it out with alot of filler that was vaguely related to the topic at hand. His column isn't amusing, in fact, I find it somewhat annoying at times, although he usually has about 1 good point among his sea of garbage. Later.

I dont like the music selection at Wal-mart, it's terrible. They barely have anything. They have Top 40 and a few other things and that's it. In some places the only place to buy music is at Wal-mart. They have that market cornered. That's Bad. One good point some guy on the Internet made was that they refuse to sell uncensored albums, yet they sell R rated movies and M rated video games. Uncensored. Sometimes, even if an album doesn't have a sticker they'll still censor it. Except they don't tell you. I buy albums at Wal-mart sometimes, mostly because they have some good deals, but I make sure what I'm buying doesn't have a sticker on it so I know it won't be censored. They censor alot of albums that may or may not have deserve it. But they didn't censor Nickelbacks new album. Why didn't they? It doesn't have a sticker. Why not? I'll tell you why. Those "parental advisory" stickers don't have any set standards like with movies and video games. Whether or not it gets a sticker is determined by the record label. This leads to some albums with absolutely no cussing on them to get stickers, while some albums with all sorts language or objectionable content wouldn't get one. They didn't put it on the Nickelback album. I think that it's so it would sell more and wouldn't put off parents. Besides, the lyrics on that album are just downright idiotic. You know, Nickelback used to be a Metallica cover band, I'm serious, they started out playing good music. But anyway, album wasn't censored. Another thing is that Walmart never has anything where it should be. One time I was looking for something and found it half way down the aisle. I'm not kidding. It says the artist on the little cardboard thing you know? And theirs a hodgepodge of different people, but nothing of what it says it is. I've seen worse at bookstores with music organization. But still. It's really the fault of people who are too lazy to put things in the proper place. But wouldn't you'd think the store would move it back everyday? I prefer to buy music at Best Buy, they have an excellent selection of artists, sell uncensored album versions, and everything is always where it should be. Although sometimes it's a hit or miss. For instance. When I go to buy music, I have a mental list of albums I want. Let me tell you what happened once. I was looking for some albums. I looked at Anthrax, didn't have the album I was looking for (Among The Living). This is strange because it happens to be their most popular album. They had a bunch of greatest hits albums, but I'm not the kind of person who just buys a greatest hits album. Unless their mostly a singles band (Creedence Clearwater Revival) or have way too many albums (David Allen Coe, with 41 studio albums) then I'll make an exception. I mostly stick to actual albums and not contemplations. So I moved on to Soundgarden, I was looking for Down On The Upside, they had Superunknown (already had it, and one of my favorite albums by the way), Badmotorfinger (already had it), A greatest hits album (already explained), they even had Ultramega OK their debut album that was made back when they were a local band that no one had ever heard of. But they didn't have what I was looking for. I went to The Smashing Pumpkins,alot of Internet people (such as Mark Prindle) hate them, but you can't deny they have some good songs, plus Brad from Brad's Completely Useless Record Reviews gave it a 10. But I didn't didn't find what I was looking for (Siamese Dream). This is strange, because sometimes they don't have the most popular albums by famous musicians, but they will have just about every obscure Death Metal band and people you've never heard that of you can imagine. Seriously, I saw a band called Sounds Of Animals Fighting. I'm serious, what the heck is that? Nonetheless, Best Buy is an excellent choice of music, it blows Wal-mart out of the water.

I hate automatic hand dryers. You know those things in public restrooms you push and air comes out? Those things. Their useless. I can't count the number of times I've washed my hands to find the only thing they only have those freakin air whoosh thingies. Seriously. They don't do anything, a little air. How does that dry your hands? I have to shove my hands up near the nozzle to get any heat, and do it for both hands usually more than once. It's ridiculous. These things are completely useless. I spent over an hour trying to decide a song, I was going to use AC/DC's "Jailbreak" but I thought, what else is there. So im, looking, and for some reason record labels are cracking down on Youtube so that limited my choices. I thought of Alice in Chains. "Man In The Box" had embedding disabled, so I thought of using "Would?" but I couldn't decide between 3 versions. I move on to the Smashing Pumpkins, early Soundgarden ("flower"), Creedence Clearwater revival, Pantera, Van Halen, the Joy Division, Anthrax and some others. I didn't want more Metallica, and I went back to everything at least 3 times. But I think I've finally found something gthat satisfies everyone. But it has no music video. So, another musical related post, don't worry, I'm not turning this into a music blog, I'm working on Casino commercials and something I've been wanting to do since i started this blog. But this will not become a music blog, just saying, anyway, I listened to this album, its been called Dream Theaters masterpiece. But what did I think of it? Its sort of like Yes crossed with Metallica. And according to Brad’s Completely Useless Record Reviews
, Pink Floyds The Wall. But Yes had substance, Metallica (not the terrible St.Anger Metallica, the good one.) had substance, this doesn't. Its nothing but flashy show-off ism. Now, these guys are very technical and some of the stuff they do just blows my mind; they've got the potatoes but where's the meat? WHERE??????. Yes the guitarist can play multiple notes at a time really fast, and yes the drummer can hit the bass drum really fast, but maybe it should sound like a normal bass drum. Let me explain, most bass drums sound like boom or thud, not this, this sounds like a possum getting run over by a car, "squash", seriously. This flash gets old after 10 minutes. Not to mention, some of these lyrics are just plain stupid and these guys have no songwriting skills. Take out the flash and you have nothing. The ballads on here are terrible. The vocals are over the top operatic nonsense and there's rarely a moment when somethings not getting overplayed. Its so empty. But like i said, the technical skills are mind blowing. Another thing, the bass line and riff in the song "Home" reminds me of Tool. But this is no masterpiece, i stopped paying close attention around track 8 or so, and i cant remember how any of these songs go. All flash, no substance. 6 out of 10

Continuing my trend of music related rants, I’m going to talk about something I’ve tried to tackle in the past, but have never gotten very far before I scrapped it. But I’m here and I’m going to run down genre by genre why approximately 94% of music is terrible.

Pop music
Pop music is the scourge of modern music, the most shallow form of music in existence. It usually has nothing interesting, instead relying completely on vocal melodies, it contains clichéd lyrics about the same topic in every song. It also has infected everything else. It doesn’t exist for the art of music but purely to make money off people who have no taste and don’t understand that a computer going beep and a fake drum machine with the word love said every other line, with obvious melodies and nothing else barely qualifies as music.

Rock Music (and its subgenres)
After the mid 90s rock music started sucking, yes, the 80s had its share of terrible music but bands such as Nickelback, and Creed, released albums, they were complete rip-offs of earlier and far better bands, using the same "riffs" (seriously, Creeds "Torn" and "My Own Prison" are almost the exact same thing) over and over. Let me tell you the formula for everything. Quiet, with approximately 3 note variety, then the heavy guitars kick in, play 3 plodding notes and create back ground noise, rinse and repeat. It just sucks, theirs no creativity or originality. Seriously, every single thing i hear is a rip off of some early 90s band that is far better than they could ever hope to be. Then theirs Nu-Metal. Nu-Metal is a joke, its stupid, uninspired lyrics written by bands trying to sound angsty for the purpose of selling their albums to moronic teenagers. Unfortunately it works. The guitar is so detuned it isn’t funny, and the riffs are so simple. Fingers go up the neck, fingers go down the neck. Half the bands just grunt like a constipated bear most of the time and barely sing. That’s it, nu-metal is terrible. I blame all this somewhat on pop music for watering everything down for the mainstream to almost nothing. Really, the way i trace this, is after Nirvana broke up, record companies had to fill the gap. What did they do? They got bands that tried to imitate them as closely as possible. Nickelback started out this way. Listen to their first album (Curb) to hear what I’m talking about. After these bands became successful the record companies realized the answer to their problems. They could just tell people what to listen to and they'd buy it. This goes for all music in general. Part of the problem is idiotic 13 year olds that buy this stuff who don’t know what their talking about. Greenday is not punk. Avril Lavigne is definitely not punk. Slipknot is not metal (not good metal anyway, nu metal) Taylor swift and Carrie Underwood are not country music, but I'll cover this in the next section. The point is, the record companies realized anything can be sold to people if you pay radio stations to play it alot and drill it into their head so they think it’s popular, no matter how bad it really is. That’s how it works now. It’s terrible. Turning out the same music over and over and over for the purpose of making money off people with no music taste. There was also the "post-Punk" revival thing. Which sucked as well. I can safely guess that this too was created by the record companies. When I hear it on the pop station then it probably is. The Killers are not "post-punk", I heard them all over the pop station. The Joy Division is "post-punk” but chances are, you've never heard of them. The sad state of rock music in the current day is unbelievable. A minimal riff with a generically catchy melody is all people want now. Moving on to metal. Yes, "glam metal" in the 80s was sort of poppish and was really over the top with lyrics and wore stupid outfits. But it wasn’t really that bad. I’m not as biased towards it as some who grew up in the early to mid 90s might be. 80s bands are really starting to get popular again. Why, I don’t know, possibly guitar hero, I consider guitar hero a mixed blessing to music, but that’s for another post. I don’t really have a problem with them. One thing about metal is all the fights on the internet about who was better, usually these center around Metallica vs megadeth vs slayer vs anthrax. It’s stupid. Their all good in their own way, people can’t seem to agree on that for some reason. But since I mentioned it, why don’t I give my own opinions on these bands. I'll start with Metallica since I’m most familiar with them. In defense of Metallica, I’m tired of 13 year olds who hate them because they "sold out". Just because they changed their sound doesn’t mean they sold out. I love the stuff they did in the 80s, they did change their sound in the 90s. Why? I figure that after ...And Justice For All, and its ridiculous amounts progressiveness, they decided to go more back to the basics, simple structure, 1 riff per song, two maximum, 5 minute songs. You cant blame them, its got to be hard to play full sets of 8 and 9 minute songs that technical. But this lead to the album known as "The Black Album". It made them mainstream. People who had never heard of this band before were now fans. But at the same time they were pulling in MTV viewers and casual music listeners, they alienated some of their older more loyal fans. Now, at this point they would have probably become mainstream anyway, but would they have become so popular and sell 15 million copies? Probably not. The songs on that album were simpler and more mainstream but they were not sellouts. A sellout is a formerly creative band becoming generic and uninteresting. Merely changing your sound does not make you a sellout. And honestly, did people really expect them to play this aggressive thrash metal their whole lives? Seriously, eventually, it'd become stale. Besides as great as that was, they've started to move back to that. If you'll notice Death Magnetic has the old Ride The Lightning template. The thing that keeps them from achieving their old sound completely, is that theirs too many funky-bluesy-bendy note Load style riffs. That and the extreme over compression that just ruins it almost. really, go to YouTube, listen to the guitar hero versions of the tracks and listen to them in high quality, amazing, you can hear things that you cant actually hear on the album its so compressed. But "The Black Album" is not that bad, its still metal. And their still good songs. But from their they went in all sorts of directions. But I’m not going to comment on the Load and Reload albums because I’ve only heard 1 song from each of those. And yes, Even though I’ve only heard 2 songs, St.Anger is terrible. Megadeth is not that good in my opinion, their fans are ridiculous. Dave Mustaine can’t sing well, and just because some of his songs are more technical than Metallica’s doesn’t mean anything. Just because it’s more technical doesn’t mean it’s automatically good. He got kicked of Metallica because he was an alcoholic druggie that would have taken the whole band down with him. Anthrax is alright, I don’t have any albums but they sound fine, and they did that thing with public enemy so theirs that. But I'm getting off-topic, nu-metal is not metal, it’s a joke, the good news is that thrash metal is getting popular again. Theirs alot of new bands coming out that you've probably never heard of unless you look for them. But anyway, on to country music

Country Music
Country Music used to be good, until pop music infected it. Carrie Underwood is fake, obviously studio altered, with clichéd lyrics and back ground music. To be honest, she’s more of a pop singer. Take away the acoustic guitar or fiddle or whatever and put in a synthesizer or something and you'd have a perfect pop song but no, you have to market this as country. Why? it sells better. That way you can pull in older people who would have never listened to something with the pop tag on it. Same for Taylor Swift. Their not country. I don’t care how many times you want to try and defend them, their just not. Just because you put an acoustic guitar in a pop song does not mean it’s a country song. Another thing about country music is that it’s so whiny now. I can’t stand the whininess of Tim McGraw or Keith Urban or anything else. Oh, my wife left me, family...nostalgia...and a bunch of drivel designed to make it sound more intelligent than pop music, when if you listen to the lyrics it contains the same themes. Half the songs are about love or something related to that. Whatever happened to sounds of Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, or David Allen Coe? Did they just disappear? Another thing, how come country stations never play older country. It’s the same top 40 songs over and over and over. Sound familiar? But if you want older country on the radio, the best advice I can give you is that if you get radio from anywhere near St. Louis, 98.5 plays older country sometimes. Sometimes in a row. They have a very powerful signal that goes down to the Arkansas border I hear. But that’s your best bet as far as I know. The sounds of older country still exist underground though. Ever hear of Hank Williams III? Probably not. You won’t hear him on the radio. Its not that he’s not popular, he’s got a large following in the underground, he plays older country, and punk rock and metal. He does alot. But there is him and other like him if you look hard enough. But seriously, why have we never heard of a "classic country" station? There’s all kinds of classic rock stations, why not classic country? I’ve never heard of it, but I should.

Rap Music
Now, I’m not someone who bashes rap music just because its rap music. Rap music has a short shelf life anyway. But rap music is terrible now. I’m not very familiar with rap music but i know it never used to be this way. There used to be rap artists who were better than some rock bands in their day. For a few albums Public Enemy was very good and surpassed even many rock bands at their peak. Plus they did that song with Anthrax. They didn’t write songs about the ghetto or life on the street or bling-bling. They wrote songs about political and social issues and they did it very well. And though I’ve never heard any of their songs, I’ve heard earlier NWA was really good even though they were gangsta rap. Which apparently ran its course 2 years after Staight Outta Compton according to Brads Completely Useless record reviews. But not all rap is bad, just the commercialized garbage that’s thrown out now.

Albums you must stay away from

Since I did albums you must have, why not albums you must stay away from? I'll tell you what not to spend your money on. These albums make Guantanamo bay look like a vacation. These albums are the worst combination of sounds ever created by man. These albums should have never even been made. Never, ever, ever even think of buying these albums ever. I haven't heard these entire albums, I don't need to, i get a few songs in before i cant stand the "music" anymore. But i don't need to, what I've heard is proof enough.

St.Anger-Metallica
I've referenced this album many times before on this site. So I'll go into more detail about it. The production; terrible; the music; awful; the lyrics; a 5 year old could write more intelligent lyrics. This is a very, very poor attempt to get back to their roots. Thankfully Death Magnetic was much better and came close to succeeding, but i hardly ever listen to it any more because of its extreme over compression. Anyway, let me list off why this is so terrible. First of all, the drums sound terrible, the snare especially sounds like trash cans inside a empty metal dumpster. They tuned the guitars all the way down to C making them all guttural. It sounds like Nu-metal. Now, I kind of like the guitar sound, but seriously, play them in the right order. These aren't riffs. Fingers go up the neck, fingers go down the neck. That's it. The lyrics are so stupid, but not only that they repeat them over and over again and pound them in your head. The songs don't flow at all. The other instruments are often buried under the terrible drum sounds. It seems like if he bangs on them even louder it'll make a better song. It does the exact opposite. Also theirs no solos anywhere on this album. Why?? It sounds as if Kirk Hammett just gave up trying. Their are only two moments on this album that would even qualify as being listenable to the human ear. The intro to the title track, which sounds kinda cool until the singing starts. That intro is the only good part of the song. And "Frantic"; does it suffer from extremely stupid, unbelievably repetitive lyrics? Yes. Terrible snare sound that overpowers everything? Yes. Guitars that do almost nothing? Yes. But is it the best song on the album? Yes. Its listenable. and that says alot on this album. On another note, this is from the band that made Master of puppets? Seriously. Its unbelievable how much they declined. Thankfully, the next album was much, much, much better. If your at the store and you see this album. Don't even think of buying this. I wouldn't even take this if they gave it to me for free. Absolutely horrendous abomination.

Cut The Crap-The Clash
Ah yes, the clash, a staple of classic punk. Except this, this was their last studio album. Good thing too. Its hard to find a bigger joke then this from a formerly respectable band. The songs have random, inappropriate boing, ping, thwack and other ridiculous sounds that drown out everything else half the time. They got rid of their drummer and replaced him with an ultra fake sounding drum machine. There are a million cheesy 80s synthesisers all over the place and the guitar has a slicked over pukeish sound. The chorus's always have like 100 people singing it with no singing voices that probably got pulled off the street. This is a complete joke. Now to be fair, even though "This is England" has all those terrible things, their are less ridiculous noises and its a decent song. But other than that. This album is a bunch of vomit random 80s noises that should never be listened to by any creature in the universe. What idiots made this? Seriously? Did they honestly think this was good? An exaggerated but true example of how mainstream pop music can absolutely destroy the sounds formerly known as music.

Marti Gras-Creedence Clearwater Revival
Here's another example of a formerly great band sucking badly before breaking up. So after the rhythm guitarist left the other band members wanted to get more song writing in, except your John Fogerty and you almost single handedly are CCR, you write all the music and lyrics and you could probably play every single instrument with little to no change in musical quality. But you let your remaining band mates write and sing on some songs. Except they are absolutely terrible at writing songs and cant sing to save their life. One has the range and charisma of a monotonous drone. Another just sounds plain terrible. The songs would suck even if they wernt sung by these people. If you can find a worse hoe down song than "tearin up the country" I'd like to hear it, or maybe i wouldn't. This is one of the worst examples of a rock band going country I've ever heard. Thankfully John Fogerty does sing on some songs. They arnt quite up to the standards of their earlier material but they are honestly decent songs. Truly the last breath of CCR. For some reason these ended up on
Chronicle but "Born on the Bayou" didn't why? If you are ever going to buy a CCR album, don't buy this one ever. I recommend the greatest hits contemplation Chronicle volume 1. Their studio albums are filled with a few hits surrounded by airless blues jams that go nowhere. Until Cosmos Factory they weren't good at it. But since 7 out of 11 songs on that are in Chronicle you might as well get that. It made my "albums you must have" list, which you can read if you scroll down some. Bottom Line; Stay away from this.

Van Halen 3-Van Halen
I love Van Halen back when they had David Lee Roth (Still do i guess since he came back). Then Sammy Hagar came and ruined it. But this is worse. This has Gary Cherone. He sounds terrible. Really. I cant say it better so I'm going to quote Brad from Brads Completely Useless Record Reviews. "What does it sound like, you ask? Well, picture Sammy Hagar at 80 years old. With laryngitis. And LUNG CANCER. That’s what Gary sounds like." and he also said "...it feels like someone has taken a large piece of sandpaper, stuck it inside my ear, and started grinding it violently against my eardrums. It’s AWFUL. If one looks solely at vocals, this is the by FAR the worst album I’ve ever heard, and it has no real competition." That's nuff said. Don't buy this album. Start with the self titled Van Halen or a greatest hits contemplation. Not this.

King of the Hill has Been cancelled

So one of my favorite TV shows has been cancelled. I was probably going to happen eventually, but why now? Yes, its not as funny as it used to be but its far better than any other cartoon on Fox. The Simpson's started sucking years ago. I love the Simpson's before then. Ive seen almost every episode. I don't make it a priority to watch the new ones anymore. Family Guy is a stupid show made for immature 13 year olds where almost all of the jokes are flashbacks starting with: remember when...or remember that time you... and so on that has nothing to do with the story that's strung together by a weak plot. American dad is an even worse version of family guy. Just replace the dog with an alien. They've also made the Simpson's dumb down their material which is a large part in why they suck now even though family guy blatantly rips off the Simpson's plots and characters. King of the Hill was the only thing left that was worth watching. This is sad. That shows a classic. Has it been declining some lately? Yes. But has it made a comeback? Yes it most certainly has. I don't have much more to add without repeating myself so later.

I-pod Music download quality

I dont normally download music, but with this particular album, i already did along time ago with rhapsody. Im not getting rid of rhapsody, you get 25 free plays a month, so i can review an album for free. But for the most part iv'e switched to I tunes because i got an I-pod touch. This album i couldnt transfer becasue of copyright protections embeddded. I had a giftcard and thought, it wouldnt matter if i downloaded it again. So I do. I look at it on my computer. 128 bit rate! Thats bad. I like to have the highest quality sound i can get. Now I try to set all my music the highest it will let me, 320 Kbps. Now, when i downloaded this album the first time, i came as 193 bit rate, acceptable in my eyes. Of course thats before i relized i hadnt set it to a higher bit rate. But 128 is bad. Good thing I didnt pay for it. Im just gonna but a physical copy of the album like i always do. 128 bit rate is unnacceptable. I-tunes needs to get higher quality download quality.

Edit: okay, maybe i was a bit too harsh. Its fine on multiplayer, its a good game, but the set list sucks. GH 3 had tons of classic rock. This is full of new stuff and just plain bad stuff. Korn? Breaking Benjamin? Paramore? Why? Its all whiny emo-ish stuff. That's not rock. They do have some good bands. But not enough. And the only metallica song in this is trapped under ice. I was hoping for a good song after all the terribleness. but they give me that? Why not "Creeping death?" or "For Whom The Bell Tolls"? or maybe even "Fade to black". There from the same album as that. Why? I'll just have to wait for the expansion. And i hear theres a Jimmi Hendrix one coming out too. So theres that. Good game, bad songs. Rock band 2 did it better, its not worth $200 in my opinion. Anyway, now that that's out of the way, read my original review below.

So, flushed with Christmas money, about 2 $50 visa cards, $20 in cash, a $50 gift card to Barnes and noble, a $20 check and a small $10 gift card to borders, i like books. But anyway, i didn't ask for much so i got a ton of money. So i go to the store to spend some. I got 2 books. I was going to spend the rest of the money on albums, but i got an X box 360. I figure, why not get a game? After arguing over rock band 2 or guitar hero: world tour, we got GH. Yes, i knew rock band had better songs but i figured, stick with guitar hero. Big mistake. I pay $100 because me and my brother split it. it cost more than i thought, i thought id have some money left but no, both the gift cards are used. This better be good, I thought. I get home, i set it up. It was disappointing. Its not very user friendly on multi player. Some things you cant tell. And the songs, terrible choice. Rock band 2 nailed it. Guitar hero missed. There are some good songs, but many of them I've never heard of. Some just suck. Why is Korn here? Why? Blink 182? They don't deserve a spot. The thing with Guitar hero 3, which was great, was that every song was a classic. Even the new stuff was really popular at the time. And another thing, id heard of almost everyone on there. On this, i don't even know who half these people are. HushPuppies? Stuck in the Sound? NOFX? Who are these people? Your supposed to be doing songs that actually have something significant about them. Another thing, Why does Tool have 3 songs?? Why? I don't have a problem with Tool, but why 3 songs? O yeah, one of them isn't forty six & 2. In comparison, Rock Band 2 features Pearl Jam, Joan Jett, Kansas, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Tenacious D, Megadeth, Ratt, Billy Idol, Soundgarden and a better Metallica song than GH. ("battery" from master of puppets as opposed to "Trapped under Ice", one of the few songs off Ride the Lightning i don't like.) Not the Hushpuppies. To be fair, its an alright game, its got Creedence clearwater revival, Nirvana, Ozzy Osbourne, the smashing pumpkins, jimmi Hendrix and even a Willie Nelson song, but so much stuff that tries to appeal to the casual gamer. Instead of Black Sabbath, we get Blondie, instead of Slayer, the mars Volta, seriously, the mars Volta. Some songs on GH are the same as on rock band 2, and there are some of the same artists with different songs, for instance, system of a down, its great there on there, but rock band 2 has "Chop Suey!" this has "B.Y.O.B". Both are good songs but "Chop Suey!" is clearly the more classic song. Ive also heard complaints about the note chart being way off what it is in real life, and how sometimes theres a note that isn't really there or something. Its not worth $200. Worst $100 I've ever spent, possibly the worst purchase I've ever made. At least I have the Metallica Expansion to look forward too. That's gonna be great. Probably alot harder too. At least i got that. GH world tour is overrated, its clearly slipping, i cant believe they screwed up like this, if the next one isn't better then they've clearly jumped the shark. Buy rock band 2 instead, it has much, much, much, better songs.

Movie review: Four Christmases

So yesterday i saw Four Christmases, what did i think of it? I thought it was hilarious. Its about a happily unmarried couple who doesn't want kids or to be married, gets stranded at home and has to visit their parents who are all divorced and dysfunctional. I wont go into the details but it was a funny movie, a laugh out loud funny movie. Funny moments include two "semi professional" cage fighters who beat up their older brother, not realizing a $10 cap on presents so one kid gets an X-box and another gets a flashlight and destroying a house trying to install a satellite dish because of stubbornness. Its funny throughout and I enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, no movie is, but it was quite funny. In album review terms, high 8 out of 10.

Whats with advertisements for movies? They always have a similar sounding narrator every time, do they only have 3 guys they pay to do movie advertisements? Also, they claim every single movie advertised is number 1 or "the best of the year" or something like that, i bet if you played 2 in order, they would both say that. You cant both be the best! Choose 1 jerks! Another thing, they always claim its the film every ones talking about, but I've never heard of it, who's talking about? Stop making yourselves look stupid, seriously. Movie advertisements should be about enticing you to see the movie, not spouting a bunch of overused, cliche phrases that do nothing.

Albums You Must Have

Since Christmas is coming up soon, and as a way for me to get alot of album reviews in, I'm going to be doing mini-reviews of some albums which I believe are classics in every sense of the word. Not in any particular order.

Back In Black-AC/DC

If you don't have this album you're missing out on alot, if you don't like a single song on this album you're a complete idiot. I should just stop there, but I wont. Every song is perfect, some are lesser but not even approaching mediocre. My only complaint is that its AC/DC and the songs all start to sound similar after a while, but individually every song is near perfect. 10 out of 10

Master of Puppets-Metallica

This is the pinnacle of early Metallica. Yes, its pretty much a remake of Ride The Lighting, but it takes side 1 of that album and perfects it. People say side 1 is the best collection of metal songs ever written, and it may very well be, but side 2 is good too, though it can be kind of a disapointment when you get 3 or 4 perfect songs on side 1, you cant be better than perfect. The first track is the shortest at 5:12. Its really fast. Its got an acoustic intro, then a little flurry of electric before exploding. The next song is the title track. Its been called the best heavy metal song ever. I'm not going to argue there. Words cant describe it. There's also the best instrumental they've ever done on here, "Orion" is excellent. The rest of the songs are great also.
10 out of 10.

Superunknown-Soundgarden

Soundgarden is one my favorite bands,this album is in my opinion, one of the best albums of the 90s, the amount of diversity and songwriting skills on this is stunning. Its got 15 songs and is more than 70 minutes long, but it deserves to be 70 minutes long. It sounds like a greatest hits album half the time. "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman" were huge radio smashes back in 1994 (Black Hole Sun still is.) But anyone of these songs could have been big too, including the title track. Its got all sorts of psychedelic stuff too. Like "My Wave" which starts out as a great poppy rock song (but NOT pop-rock) that's ultra catchy but then morphs into a psychedelic freak out that doesn't loose its catchiness. "Head Down" is mind blowing, just 6:09 minutes of pure moody brilliance. "Mailman" and "Limo Wreck" are grindingly slow. "Spoonman" was huge and got played every 20 minutes practically, I still hear it on the radio, great song. Only two things are unnecessary, "kickstand" is a 1:34 minute throwaway tune with punk speed and "half" is just weird and I've listened to it maybe once. Absolute classic in every sense of the word. Very High 10 out 10.

Toxicity-System of a Down

SOAD is one of the very few modern bands I like. I used to think they were just another crappy Nu-Metal band, until I actually listened to them. If today's bands put even half the effort these guys do in their songs, maybe 96% of it wouldn't suck. Did I mention, they're all Armenian? Only one of them was actually born in America, and his parents are Armenian or something. Serj Tankian is one of the more versatile and interesting singers of today, he goes from melodic singing, to grunting, to yelping, to all sorts of weird stuff without blinking and it makes sense. The guitarist and back up singer has the exact opposite voice, almost 80s metal type, hard to describe, but it counterbalances his perfectly. They have all these thrashy parts combined with all this balladish melodic stuff usually in the same song. They use a bunch of ethnic instruments, like all those Armenian instruments and gentle soloing at the end of "psycho" intertwined with the "Psycho! Groupie! Cocaine! Crazy!" part in the chorus. But theirs more memorable chants and such. We got "Science! has failed! our world!" in "Science. and we got "Pushing little children! with they're fully automatics! they like to push the weak around!" in "Deer Dance". I think its about some riots in turkey or something about the Armenian genocide, idk. But the highlight is the title track, easily one of the best songs in years, just the way they have that little 2 second drum fill and then the drums working against the guitar is genius, its the little things that anyone could have done but they were too stupid too do that's part of the appeal. You'll be jerked around between all these emotions during this album, you'll be banging your head during the thrashiness, then think "gee, that's pretty." and then laughing at the lyrics and vocal mannerisms in the same song. Excellent album, possibly one of the best of the decade. 10 out of 10

Chronicles-Creedence Clearwater Revival

This is a greatest hits album, i haven't listened to it fully yet, so I'm not going to rate it. But I have listened to alot of it. It has most of their hits and singles, except "Born on the Bayou" instead of which we have 2 of the better songs from the awful Marti Gras. At least their the ones that John Fogerty sings on. When he lets the rest of the band try solo, like on that album, its absolutely awful. If it had "Born on the Bayou" of course it'd be perfect. But really, its missing why?! It makes no sense to leave that song out. But anyway, i will say this. This album is essential for anyone with any interest in classic rock what so ever.

Paranoid-Black Sabbath

This album is an absolute all time classic, its got "Iron Man" and "Paranoid" in the same album! Every song, except the instrumental "Rat Salad" is great. Yes, maybe the lyrics arnt great at times, but think about how many bands wouldn't have existed without this album, really, most of them. These guys and The Beatles (who I'm not very familiar with) pretty much created everything you hear today. "Planet Caravan" is a weird song that's really psychedelic. "Fairies Wear Boots"
is a great song and its got "Iron man" and "Paranoid" That speaks enough about this album. 10 out of 10

Its a TV show that has become a staple of television, it has gone through many time slots, channels and hosts, it has become a classic in its own right, except one thing. It outdated. Yes, Americas Funniest Home Videos is an outdated show. With websites such as youtube and others, we dont need a TV show to watch people's hilarious videos anymore. And the humor is outdated also, its pretty much the last holdout of 70's style shows which are so cheesy. and the videos, where do I begin, the videos are so repetitive, oh look, that guy fell, that kid got scared, and so on. How many times can you watch someone fall or a kid get scared of santa during the kids scared of santa montages? The show is obsolete, period. If i want funny videos, i go to youtube where theirs more than physical comedy, although it is funny, and youtube is of gennerally of a funnier quality than anything they show there. Another thing, the video that wins is never funny. Its just something with a baby or an animal thats supposed to be "cute". It's so rediculous. America's Funniest Home Videos is nothing but a relic of an era that is long gone, its time to get rid of this outdated show.

Enter Sandman-Metallica

I will not hesitate to say this is one of the best power ballads ever made, the whole song is brilliant, it has one of the smoothest transitions I've ever heard, it goes from a ballad to a heavy thrash metal song so flawlessly. The music video has clips from the movie Johnny got His Gun which is similar to what this song's about. Its about a soldier in World War I who's wounded when a mortar shell lands right on top of him, he survives, but he losses his arms, legs, eyes, ears, jaw, and nose. So he's essentially trapped in his mind. His wish is to either die or be put on public display to showcase the horrors of war. But enough of that. Its a good song, period. (edit: it looks like all the music videos for "One" are gone due to a copyright claim, so I've been forced to use this video of just the band logo with lyrics. But it has the song. Unbeleivable.)

Now this guy is called Brad, and hes not my cousin. He inspired me to do albums occasionally, even though he admits he ripped of 99% of Mark Prindles writing style. he also used to cuss in alot of his early reviews, but he almost never does anymore, hes matured alot. Its a waste of money, i don't care if you have unlimited texting or not, its ridiculous. What ever happened to passing notes? If you get caught you don't lose your phone. Fireworks in Cupboard (title to new video is firework accident.)

This was a one time thing by some people from different bands to do Pink Floyd's Brick in The Wall. I only know of 2 of them, one is Layne Staley of Alice in Chains (one of my favorite bands), who's singing is slurred in this because heroin addiction was causing him to start losing teeth and general sickness, it eventually killed him, its also why they recycled earlier footage. Another is Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. I like this version. and the title is inaccurate, its by Class of 99 and there are 3 other guys from other bands that I'm not familiar with.

So, since holiday shopping season has just started for most people, i thought id tackle something so utterly unnecessary its not even funny, its not funny because it costs you money. Gift cards are almost useless, you can only turn them in at the store it was bought from. It costs the same amount of money, why not just give them money? Its much more flexable, gift cards are nothing but corporate shills. You have to spend that money at their store and if it expires your screwed, and they get free money. Then it wont even be worth the cheap chinese plastic its made from. Dont buy gift cards, just give them money, its a much better gift becasue its redemmable anywhere. Thats all I have on giftcards. The Naked Brothers Band

Ive been promising this since the beginning, and now i will write about something even worse than Hannah Montana, worse than HSM, worse than the Jonas Brothers. Not only is their music bad, but their TV show is too. I watched 5 minutes, the camera work is terrible, their music sucks and the whole premise is ridiculous. Now hold on, yes it may be marketed to 11 year olds, but it makes them think this is good music and TV. Its not. Surprisingly, this isn't a Disney creation, no, its Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon is a mere shell of its former self. I saw that station transform before my eyes into utter crap. You can argue that I'm biased towards the shows I grew up with. I don't buy that. Older Ren and Stimpy was good. All That back when it was intelligent and before they replaced all the cast with pre teens and it became so unintelligent. And Kenan and Kel. The good burger movie is a classic in my mind. Heres something i still remember from it.

Anyway, Nickelodeon is terrible now, they even tried doing a rip off of Japanese cartoons. This however, is so unbelievably bad. These kids arnt even professional actors, their mom was in some 80s sitcom and knew the right people. The acting is bad, the music is worse, the jokes are terrible and its just crappy in general. The singer is 12, the bass player is like 15 or 16. Somethings wrong here, in the show the singer is always trying to go out with her. Why even try? shes like 3 or 4 years older than you, you re not even or barely out of elementary school and shes in high school, whats up with that? Another thing, who has a Cello in a band? Also, stop trying to pass yourself off as a rock band, your not, your a pop band that was created to make money. In Live performances its obvious they don't play their own instruments. Watch this video and you'll see what i mean, look in the background, standing off to the side, are adults playing everything, they don't even try to fake playing, at least very well. The only person who seems to be actually playing is the bass player,and if she isn't, she fakes playing bass guitar really well, notice how she actually looks at the guitar neck, and finger picks the strings in rhythm with whats actually being played. Unlike the others, who strum like idiots and don't play a note.

Now, for both yours and my own amusement, I'm going to do a fake interview with the lead singer, Nat Wolff, and pretend to give him a hard time, just for laughs.

Me: So i noticed that on the today show you said that you go to an "actual real school."

Nat: Yea, we do.

Me: Well, you must because your grammar is atrocious.

Nat: well...

Me: To be honest, to me, your music sounds like a cross between Maroon 5 and a really bad Beatles rip-off.

Nat: Well, the Beatles is my favorite band. (it really is, so he says)

Me: Well I admit you've chosen a pretty good model, if you played decently and wrote decent lyrics, I mean seriously, that song you've got, "Banana Smoothie" is messed up.

Nat: Maybe

Me: Maybe yes.

Nat: Comon, don't you think Rosalina is hot?

Me: No, I thought that was just a thing in the show, maybe you should use people real names too.

Nat: sorry, but comon, don't you?

Me: Not really, and who came up with that anyway? Shes like my age and your what 12? Why try?

Me: Well, were out of time, I'm gonna go edit this to make you look crazy, just like on every reality TV show, by the way, very insightful(snickers).

In an effort to get back to the original spirit of this little page i have, I'm going to start doing more rants again. One thing that really gets me, is those security stickers on DVD and video game cases. You know what I'm talking about? Its a pain to get off, and its on all 3 sides! Is that really necessary? That security tape is really going to stop someone from stealing it from Amazon.Com's warehouse. Even if its in a box set, its on all 4 or 5 videos! On top of that, theirs another thing on the box! Why??!! But not only DVD cases, most toys have wires and Styrofoam and all this other crap. Its ridiculous, getting ridiculous packaging off is a pain. (Those monsters! How dare they try to keep their product from being stolen!) That's probably what Brad would say, but do you really need it on things that are being sold online?? Obnoxious packaging is a waste of money as well as time, patience, and your life, because I'm writing about it, and you just read that whole thing. Later.

It seems everyone in my house except me, goes on I-Tunes or whatever and buys single songs. This bugs me alot. I only buy whole albums, i figure, if its only worth one song than why buy it at all? If you want that song on the radio then wait for a greatest hits album, seriously. I myself have 16 albums that i listen too. (8 of them are ac/dc albums) I have more, but alot of it is useless stuff. Such as Daughtrys generic radio ready debut album, and Creeds greatest hits, (o god). So yes, i have heard a creed song in my life, I don't like them, at all! and if that's the best they can do, then I don't want an album. Anyway, I buy whole albums, most in CD form, I have 3 I Downloaded off Rhapsody yes, but I downloaded the whole album. Buying single songs makes no sense to me, call me old fashioned I guess, I just think that you should buy the whole album, and not just some song you heard off the radio, the purpose of singles is to get you to buy the album, stop abusing the promotional system, seriously. Next time, I'm talking about something that is far worse than buying single songs...Illegally obtaining music.

Today I'm going to show you two awful awful groups of kids who try to play music but clearly don't know how to.

Iron Man-Black Sabbath

Now, it starts out okay, but the rhythm falls apart fast and it becomes a mess.

Smells Like Teen Spirit-Nirvana

This is easily the worst cover of this song i have ever heard anywhere. If Kurt Cobain hadn't killed himself earlier he would have when he heard this, I'm not kidding. The only decent thing here is the drummer. The guitarist is terrible, he not only screws up, he doesn't use any distortion at all, and his amp keeps cutting out, though one time it wasn't his fault. The singer, who is a girl, needs singing lessons bad, she shouts and screams almost the whole song, not even Kurt Cobain himself did that, she chokes once and near the end when she starts rolling around on the floor its ridiculous, seriously stop trying to be Courtney Love, everyone hates her, shes just a B list junkie celebrity who stole most of her music anyway, nuff said. But don't take my word for it, i lol'ed watching it, its that bad.

Some high points, at 1:26 someone reaches down and unplugs the guitarists amp in the background. At 2:56 watch the searing solo. (heavy, heavy sarcasm)

So remember, if you are going to try and play at a middle school talent show, please, learn to play your instruments. Later.
